NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2011

Dear friends,

Thank you for your prayers & continued fellowship.

During my visit to Bulgaria in October we had snow, torrential rain & some sunshine. Wading through flood water we delivered baby clothes, pampers & baby milk to the doctor at Sliven Women’s prison, they were very grateful but told us they needed baby blankets. I have been given some & will drop them of in December.

VINITSA -we delivered clothes, toys & bedding here. They told us they needed food so we bought 18 chickens, cheese, fruit, butter & tinned vegetables.
They were grateful for the syringe driver we had sent in August but with 19 tube-fed babies they really needed another so we ordered that for them.
The Director said that she would like us to come & work with her babies & offered us accommodation in the orphanage.

KRUSHARI - Here there was a need for special food for 18 children with epilepsy.
Their medication can cause anaemia & special food was needed to combat this. We were able to pay for 2months supply of medication & food. The staffs were really grateful for the suction machine we bought in August; their paediatrician had taught them how to use it.
The Director had ordered much needed underwear & socks & these were being held at the suppliers until she found a sponsor. We were happy to pay for these. We spent several hours here & the children enjoyed the bubbles, balloons & musical toys. Unknown to us the Director had been watching us & as we were leaving she commended us for our love for & gentleness with the children. She also asked us to return & spend time there.
Staff are so grateful for the little help we can give.
Charities, committees & politicians are arguing about the future of the orphanages, but no one is supplying their basic needs day by day.

PLEVEN - In the second week the 4 of us spent 5 days in Pleven Orphanage continuing our therapy programme. We took clothes, toys & bedding & bought each department pampers. We were also able to pay for a little boy to have a brain cyst removed.

THE HELSINKI COMMITTEE are putting pressure on the orphanages to do & supply things they are unable to through lack of funds.( budgets have been reduced these last 3 years.) It seems that the Directors rather than the government are to be the scapegoats. .It is obvious that there is mismanagement in some cases but many do the very best they can with the funding they receive.

We bought them pedal bins, liners & paper towels to comply with the new regulations
All wood panelling is to be removed from bedrooms & the walls plastered, all wood/lino flooring to be replaced with ceramic tiles - all with no extra funding.

WORK PARTY - For our May Work Party we plan to refurbish the Isolation Unit. This will involve removing panelling from 6 rooms, re-plastering, re-decoration & laying ceramic tiles.
This is a big project:
►Please pray that we will have a large team
►pray that we will be able to replace the very old cots.

CHRISTMAS BOXES - We have had a tremendous response to our appeal & now have 230 & still coming!

Pray for Rachel & I as we go to Bulgaria 6th - 16th December to help distribute these. Pray for safe travel on poor roads & winter weather.

Thank you again for your support & fellowship in this work.
